Panasonic had a few new announcements this year – first off is their new HPX 600 camcorder. It is being touted at the lightest shoulder-mounted 2/3 inch camcorder available. It sports the new 2/3 CMOS sensor and will be upgradeable for new features in the future like AVC-Ultra support, and recording to proxy files. It [...]

Avid Steps Into the Cloud at NAB 2012

The crowds are thick here at NAB 2012’s Booth #SU902. People are shoulder-to-shoulder trying to take a peak at Avid’s largest product announcement at this conference in over a decade. The booth itself is enough to stir a sense of excitement in even the most Luddite of tech users. The displays are larger than life and I’m slowly making my way to each smaller display to wrap my head around the new family of products and services they are offering. I have to say: This is going to change everything.

The All New Autodesk Smoke

Share
It looks like Autodesk is stepping up to try to capture that market share of editors that felt “abandoned” by the release of FCP X last year.  Even though Apple is releasing new updates for FCP X bringing it closer to how FCP 7 used to be, there is still a void in that market [...]

Pluraleyes for FCP X

Share
PluralEyes for FCP X is out and ready to help with all of your syncing needs. You may be wondering why you might need PluralEyes for FCP X considering that FCP X has it’s own ability to synchronize clips within the application. I shared your same skepticism, however, if you dig in and do a [...]

Moving to FCP X without giving up FCP 7

Share
I decided to take the plunge today and purchase FCP X after giving the trial a once-over. I get a lot of work for both Avid and FCP 7 but lately I have been asked about FCP X – so it’s time to start learning something new.
I don’t have a great deal of experience yet, [...]

Avid Media Composer 6 is everything they said it would be…

Share
When I first heard the news about Media Composer 6, I was genuinely excited. It has been a long time since an NLE has given me a reason to look forward to its release. After the release of FCP X, I realized (along with everyone else in the professional film and video world) that I [...]

Avid Media Composer 6.0 comes out swinging

Share
Big announcement from Avid today that has me thinking there might be changes to every FCP post house in the country. At the very least, it will be a hefty battle between Avid and Adobe for the existing FCP 7.0 users that felt a bit left out in the cold from the launch of the [...]

My journey back to Avid Media Composer

Share
I began editing professionally in 1997. It started with a Sony BVE-9100 linear system,

then migrated into the world of NLE systems beginning with D-Vision, which became the Discreet Edit.

Moved on to Avid Media Composer in 1999 and also (somewhere in the 2000-2002 range) I had a brief stint with DPS Velocity. However,  the Avid Media [...]

Video lighting basics – understanding electricity

Lighting is what separates the men from the boys when it comes to video and film production. Understanding lighting and using it properly is a talent that takes time to learn.
As we make our way down this path we will all experience different instruments that will help us turn our darkened scene into a work [...]
