Just a reminder: Tonight’s season finale of “House” was shot entirely on Canon 5DmkII cameras
Tonight’s season finale of the Fox series “House” was shot entirely with Canon 5D Mark II’s, Canon Glass and Red Rock Micro Shoulder Rigs. This is not a new story by any means, Philip Bloom had written about it and Cinema 5D broke the story in March. However, I wanted to bring it up here just to make sure that those of us that are interested in this stuff (which is probably everybody here on PA) watch “House” tonight. In my opinion, this is a big deal to the future of DSLR video – whether you like the format or not.
After watching tonight, please comment below and let me know your thoughts. I want to see what you guys think.

I have never watched a complete episode of House, only had interest on watching tonight’s show due to it being shot on the 5D and all i can say is wow! one: what an amazing episode wish i followed more of it and two: I can see why they used such a small camera for the angles they achieved. Jaw dropping images under low light was very impressive.
I thought it was pretty amazing too. That camera really is a game changer when you think about how far it has made it into mainstream Hollywood. I can’t think of another camera in the same price range that is high-quality enough for a network drama to use it as a primary camera! House is typically shot on film I think – and I’ll bet no one (outside of our industry, that is) could tell the difference. That says a lot.

John I’m in the market for an HDV camera, and would consider this Canon 5D Mark II. Reading reviews, however, I’m concerned that apparently there’s no manual aperture control, 24fps manual capabilities, or other manual video controls. What’s your take on only using auto settings?
Thanks!
Dave,
The Manual Aperture problem was fixed with the 2nd firmware release from Canon. You have full manual controls. Most people load the Magic Lantern Firmware onto it anyway to get the manual audio controls, which are just as important if you don’t want to shoot 2nd source audio.
