Canon 7D with a permanent PL Mount = Cinematographers dream

Bandpro is offering a PL mount modification for your Canon EOS 7D. It’s called the FGV 7D-PL and it’s a pretty cool piece of equipment. It is a one piece lens/sensor/base mounting element made of steel that is placed onto your 7D. It replaces your cameras ability to snap on APS-C Canon lenses with the ability to snap on PL lenses. The PL mount is the mount used by virtually all professional movie camera manufactures since 1982. The PV mount by Panavision is the only competition in the film camera industry.

“The camera’s mirror and optical viewfinder are removed and the original sensor block is rigidly reinstated in connection with the one-piece 3/8” threaded steel mounting bracket and PL lens mount, which ensures that all critical elements of the camera move as one. A 3-pin Fischer connection is added to allow start/stop control when using a handgrip system or remote camera controls. This makes the modified 7D ideal for remote rigs, car rigs and cranes/jibs.”

No price is listed on the site yet, but if you’ve got PL mount lenses lying around, you probably can afford it.
